Using Blog Tags Setting to Show Product-Specific Blog Posts
Learn how to display relevant blog posts for each product using the Blog Posts - Tagged sections and product metafields.
Overview
You can use this section to automatically display relevant blog posts based on a product's metafields. For example, you might want to show:
Care instructions for specific products
Related recipes for kitchen items
Style guides for clothing
Installation guides for hardware
FAQ posts for complex products
Setup Instructions
1. Set Up Product Metafields
First, create a metafield to store blog post tags for each product:
Go to Settings > Custom data > Products
Click Add definition
Configure the metafield:
Name: Blog Tags
Namespace and key:
product.blog_tags
Type: Single line text
Description: "Tags used to filter blog posts for this product"
2. Add Tags to Products
For each product, add relevant blog post tags:
Go to the product you want to edit
Scroll to the Metafields section
In the "Blog Tags" field, enter your tags
Separate multiple tags with commas
Example:
care-guide, washing-instructions, product-tips
3. Tag Your Blog Posts
Make sure your blog posts have corresponding tags:
Go to Online Store > Blog posts
Edit or create posts related to your products
Add tags that match your product metafields
Example: If a product uses the tag
care-guide
, add this same tag to relevant blog posts
4. Add the Section to Product Template
Add the Blog Posts - Tagged Scroll section to your product template:
Go to Online Store > Themes
Click Customize
Select a product page
Click Add section
Choose "Blog posts - tagged scroll"
In the section settings:
Click the metafield icon and select your product's metafield value (Blog Tags) into the "Filter by tag" field
Optional: Enable "Enable metafield detection" (this will hide the section if no matching posts are found)
Important: The "Filter by tag" field must contain your product's metafield value. The "Enable metafield detection" setting only controls whether the section is hidden when no matching posts are found - it does not automatically pull tags from your metafield.
How It Works
When a customer views a product, the section checks the product's "Blog Tags" metafield
The section automatically displays blog posts that match these tags
If no tags are found, the section will be hidden (when Enable metafield detection is enabled)
If multiple tags are used, posts with any matching tag will be shown
Tips & Best Practices
Use consistent tag naming across products and blog posts
Keep tags simple and lowercase (e.g.,
care-guide
notCare Guide
)Use specific tags to ensure relevant content appears
Consider creating a tagging system (e.g.,
type-care
,type-recipe
,type-install
)Test your setup with a few products first
